Light Orlando and Volunteers Come Together Monthly to Support Local Hospital Programs in Compassionate Service Project

Updated: Jun 18

Looking for a way to get involved in the Central Florida Community on a regular basis and support an amazing cause? Join Light Orlando the second Wednesday of every month from 9am-1pm for an ongoing compassionate service project.

To date, two projects have taken place, the inaugural project kicking off the monthly event on Wednesday, May 8th. During these projects volunteers work together to create items used in the Child Life Programs and throughout the hospitals to comfort families and individuals facing difficult challenges.

So far, volunteers have created handmade items such as big and small fabric hearts, pillowcases, burp cloths, quilts, and more. Each of these items serve a unique need to the hospitals and organizations to which they are donated. The large hearts that the volunteers spent the day tracing, cutting, sewing, and ironing, for example, are used as memorial tokens- a sentiment for family members to write messages for babies who have passed. Smaller hearts are created by volunteers to be used in the NICU in order to familiarize babies’ with their mothers’ scents. Pillowcases are created with fun fabrics for both boys and girls to ensure that all patients have a touch of personality in their room.

Additional items will continue to be added to the project to-do on an as needed basis. You do not need to be skilled in crafting, sewing, or any special skill to attend this project! To attend, simply come ready to learn! You may even pick up a new skill while serving your community! Project space changes from month to month, so be sure to check back each month and sign up for each project to get project updates here.
